Did you know that oral sex could cause cancer? According to a new study, oral sex increases the risk of head and neck cancer. Oral sex have been previously linked to human papillomavirus (HPV), which is also linked to cervical cancer.
HPV affects the skin, anus, cervix, throat and mouth and is a well-known cause of oropharyngeal cancer that affects the throat and tongue. HPV does not cause cancer directly but changes cells it has infected and these cells then become cancerous.
Performing oral sex on women is more risky compared to men, as the concentration of HPV is higher in the female genital than the male. Oropharyngeal cancer is the same type of cancer that affected actor Michael Douglas.
