British transport police issue statement over officer hitting man with baton at London

British Transport Police have issued a statement over an officer hitting a Nigerian man with baton on Tuesday at St Pancras Station, London after the video was uploaded on Facebook.A British Transport Police spokesman stated:

“Officers attended the station following reports from staff of fare evasion, and a man, aged 40 and from Thamesmead, London was subsequently arrested on suspicion of fare evasion and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).

“The man has since been bailed to Sunday, 13 March pending further enquiries.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 497 of 08/03/2016.”
